Episode 1: Is wanting it badly enough a reason to open a studio?

For Pilates teachers and studio owners

In the first episode of Pilates with Confidence and Purpose, Tania asks the question every future studio owner needs to sit with before signing a lease. These are the reflection questions from the episode. They are free: read them here, or download the printable version with space to write.

Reflection exercise

Before you take the leap into opening your own Pilates studio, give yourself the gift of time and honest reflection.

Find a quiet space, make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, and spend a few moments writing your thoughts in a journal.

There are no right or wrong answers.

Don’t worry about what you think your answers should be. Instead, listen to your intuition and write what feels true for you.

The more honest you are with yourself, the stronger the foundation you’ll build for your future business.

1. What is your Pilates story?

Every Pilates teacher has a story.

  • How did you first discover Pilates?
  • What inspired you to move from being a client to becoming a teacher?
  • Was there a defining moment that changed the direction of your life?
  • How has Pilates shaped the person you are today?

2. Why do you want to open your own studio?

Take a moment to look beyond financial goals or the desire to be your own boss.

  • What impact do you hope to have?
  • What kind of experience do you want people to have when they walk through your doors?
  • What values do you want your business to represent?
  • If your studio could change one thing in people’s lives, what would it be?

3. Who do you feel called to serve?

Think about the people whose lives you most want to influence.

  • Who lights you up?
  • Who do you naturally connect with?
  • What challenges are they facing?
  • How do you want them to feel after spending time with you?

The clearer you become about who you serve, the easier every business decision becomes, from your marketing and programming to the culture you create within your studio.

Final reflection

As you read back over your answers, look for the themes that emerge.

Your story. Your purpose. Your people.

These three things become the foundation of a Pilates business built with confidence, authenticity and heart.

Because when your business grows from who you are, not just what you do, you’ll create something far more meaningful than a studio.

You’ll create a community.

Share a reflection

I’d love to hear your reflections. Share one insight from answering the question below on social media and tag me, or send me a message. Your story matters, and I’d love to be part of your journey.

If you could build a Pilates studio that truly reflected who you are, not who you think you should be, what would it look and feel like?

Where to go from here

The whole road map is in Pilates & Purpose, and its free companion workbook, the Studio Success Pack, takes these questions further. If you’d like help applying them to your own plans, coaching is the next step.
